What is Physiotherapy
Physiotherapists are registered healthcare professionals that specialize in how the body moves. Physiotherapy takes a ‘whole person’ approach to health and wellbeing, which includes the patient’s general lifestyle. They specialize in assessing, diagnosing, and treating injuries related to muscle, ligaments, tendons, bones, joints, and nerves. Physiotherapists help you restore physical function following an injury and also help to prevent future ones through a wide range of treatment techniques.
What types of injuries can a physiotherapist help with?
Physiotherapists can treat almost any type of body injury including but not limited to injury to the neck, back, arms, legs. They can treat acute and chronic injuries that are related to sport injuries, car accidents or pains that arise from unknown causes. Physiotherapists can help with injuries related to muscle (soft tissue), ligaments, bones, joints and nerves!
“I have been working with Jamie Sonego for many years. She has fixed my back, my neck, and my ankle. I have consistently been impressed by her varied and super effective treatments. I recommend her to anyone!”

What can I expect during my initial visit?
Each session is unique because it is all about you and your specific needs and goals.
The initial visit includes a thorough history taking, physical examination (including, but not limited to assessing your range of motion, strength, functional movements) and individualized treatment.
A physiotherapy treatment can include the following:
● Education about your diagnosis and a plan for your recovery
● Soft Tissue Work
● Joint mobilizations and/or manipulations to reduce pain and stiffness
● Acupuncture
● IMS (intramuscular stimulation)/dry needling
● Therapeutic modalities to relieve pain, reduce swelling, speed up the healing process, and improve movement and function
● Individualized exercise prescription to improve your strength, balance, and function
How long are the visits?
An initial visit is about 45 minutes to one hour in length. Subsequent visits are about 30 minutes.
